Customer Service

Posted in blog on April 20th, 2009 by kirstylegg

You know, for all die-hard photographers that rattle on about how terrible Jessops are, I’ve had nothing but great service from them. I’ve been shopping there regularly since I started getting into photography, and any time I have had a problem, they have done their best for me.

Over the weekend, one of my studio lights popped. The bulb and fuse were both blown, however after replacing them, the light still didn’t work at all. I was frantic - I found my receipt and discovered the lights are still under warranty, so I phoned them and explained the situation. I was asked to come in and speak to a manager today, which I did. The manager then told me I could have the light repaired, which would take weeks, or he could exchange it with a new flash head, which would arrive in 3 days. This is the option I went for, and I am very pleased about the whole thing.

So my thanks go to the Dundee Jessops, for making my life less complicated!

Spring is in the air!

Spring is in the air!

Thank goodness the weather has been great lately. I love spring, especially as the days are getting longer once again!

Over the last few weeks I’ve been working on a few personal projects. I’ve been working on a few shoots for friends and new models, as well as a couple of commissions to keep me going. Wedding season is coming round again, although I’m torn between focusing on weddings, or trying my hand at other things.

I’ve just uploaded a bunch of photos from an event I covered in the Overgate, Dundee. VMskills hosted a competition inviting students and professionals to come up with the most creative and inspiring window-dressing designs. It was an interesting competition, and I was glad to be a part of the Scottish heat. Fingers crossed for the Scotland finalists, I hope they go on to win in London later this year!

I also worked on a bridal fashion shoot, which was just a blast. The dresses were from The Bride in Broughty Ferry. The Bride is run by Elaine, who is very friendly and relaxed. If you are looking for a wedding dress then I truly recommend visiting The Bride, you will be in very capable hands!

The shoot took place in the lovely Lands of Loyal Hotel in Alyth. I had already visited this hotel before during a wedding for a client, and the hotel definitely struck me as an ideal location for this type of shoot. The staff made us feel very welcome and provided us with excellent service throughout the day.

I’ve been fairly busy, but unfortunately I’ve also been struck with a cold that my boyfriend kindly brought home from work one day. As a result, when I’m not feeding him lemsips and flu-tablets, I’m trying to look after myself!

I’ll go for now, speak soon!

Model Behaviour

Laura - Fighter

After posting an advert online looking for amateur models to which I recieved around 100 responses from aspiring photo subjects, I did my first shoot with a brand new model Laura. I believe it went well, and I will have more results from this shoot on my Flickr very soon.

I also turned to Sharrow, a local model I have had the pleasure of shooting many times now, after a slight change of plans with other models. Always reliable, Sharrow arrived ready to model within an hour of receiving my message. The results from this shoot will also be shown on Flickr.

After hankering for a new desk ever since I moved into this flat, today was my lucky day! I bought a nice new one from Staples, and a handy storage tower. Organising my work space feels a lot better, and will hopefully make me more productive! Here’s a pic:

Last Friday I had the honour of shooting a friends wedding - Alex and Maya Mitchell tied the knot upon the decks of the R.R.S Discovery in Dundee. It was a lovely day, and the couple were glowing. As an added bonus, they were also happy with their photography, which always makes the effort and nerves worth it! You can see a selection of the photos on Alex’s blog - Zen Elements Blog

Other exciting news lately has involved Resident Evil 5, and dyeing my hair red again. I also had a visit from the neighbours kitten, and I honestly think kittens are the most adorable creatures in the universe. He was a well-behaved little man too!

That’s about it for now, keep your eyes open for my upcoming website-related changes!

New Haircut!

I got my hair cut today. I’ve been grumbling about it for a while, but finally went for it. It looks like this:

I don’t really have much else to update at the moment, other than the fact that I’m on Twitter. I’ve had an account for a while, but only just started using it, so go add me! My username is Kirstylegg.

See you later!

New Updates

Posted in blog on February 24th, 2009 by kirstylegg

I have decided to update the look of the website a little by including a blog section. I need a place where I can rant and share, and what is the point in having your own little corner of webspace if you can’t realise its true potential ;)

I have just returned from Tignes les Brevieres in France, where I spent a week skiing for the first time in my life. I went with my boyfriend and his family, a total party of 16! We had a great time, and I took more than a couple of photos. I was too frightened to take my camera with me while skiing just in case I fell over and crushed my shiny toys, but we did go around snapping pics on foot wherever possible.

As usual, the rest of my photos can be found on my Flickr Account.

Shortly before I left for France, I purchased a nice new Nikon SB-900 flashgun. I admit I haven’t had much chance to use it other than the average household snaps, but the difference between it and my SB-600 is incredible. It’s a lot bigger, and came packed with little bits and pieces, which I love. I love it when you get a nice new toy, and find that there are even more secrets in the box :p The light power and quality is very good, and the best part is that I can now use the SB-600 and SB-900 remotely off camera along with my studio lights, effectively giving me 4 heads instead of 2!

Shortly before I almost left for France, I did some photos for Missy La La’s Boutique in Crichton Street, Dundee. Missy La La’s is a fab shop, with very original twists on modern fashion at good prices, and there definitely is something for everyone in there, even I found a dress or 10 I wouldn’t mind having :p The models were great, and I hope everyone is happy with the result. I’m still relatively new to anything to do with fashion photography, but I really enjoyed doing something different!

Again the rest of the set can be seen here. I did the make-up for the shoot as well, which was really good fun. For some reason, I’m much better at putting make-up on other people than I am at putting it on myself!

Well that’s about all for now, I hope you like this new bloggy section!
